Why Quizzes are A Must-Try Marketing Tool

What dog breed are you? If you have Facebook, you may have seen—or even taken—this quiz before. Or maybe you’ve discovered what Harry Potter house you belong to. Or what decade you should live in. There is a quiz for nearly everything.

People love taking quizzes (the fun kind, not the algebra kind) because they appeal to our human nature. In essence, we love ourselves, and we love learning more about ourselves and how we relate to the world around us.

Armed with this knowledge, marketers can use social quizzes to build buzz, brand awareness and grow email lists.

My Experience

I recently built a quiz for a landscape design client of mine. The quiz is titled “What Landscape Personality Are You?” Can you see where I’m going with that? (Feel free to take it, it’s a fun quiz!) I built the quiz using Interact. They offer a very easy to use program, and excellent e-mail integration capabilities.

The quiz asks for users to opt-in to an email list before they see their results. If they choose to opt-in, they receive an automated email (using Interact’s email integration) going into further detail about their results, and providing insightful information while pointing them to the client’s website and services.

The quiz I created is shareable and evergreen, meaning the client can use it again and again for years to build her email list and create brand awareness (her logo is on the quiz as well, reinforcing her brand). It’s a fantastic investment because it’s not just a one-time use marketing tool.

The shareable nature of quizzes extends your brand reach, and can create new—potentially lucrative—leads.
